Welcome to my website! I hope you will enjoy browsing through my art gallery.
Art has always been my passion. I grew up in a small town in the southeast --Church Hill, Tennessee-- and drew or painted everything around me. The country offered lots of things to draw and paint--trees, flowers, rivers, animals, forests, old mills, and any person I could convince to sit long enough for me to draw. I gained a great appreciation for nature, wildlife, all animals and the country during this time. When I was growing up I saw the wonderful illustrations in magazines by Jon Whitcomb, Norman Rockwell and J. C Leyendecker. I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up-- become an artist!
After art school, I moved to Monterey, California and did illustrations for a magazine including several covers. One cover became very popular and was reprinted and sold as a large poster. I worked as Creative Art Director for a large printing company in Tennessee then was Senior Art Director in Knoxville for an advertising agency. Moving with my family to Florida I have worked many years as a free-lance illustrator/designer for advertising agencies in Florida but also had clients located in other states, and a few in other countries. I also owned a screen printing company featuring solely my animal art--mainly cats--and also dogs and horses on clothing and bags. These were sold in the U. S. and 13 other countries. My husband and I owned Diamond II Corporation, a property investment company.
Working as an artist in the commercial field has been a dream come true! I love it and it has been an exciting and thrilling journey. Getting to work on local or nationwide accounts, and some foreign accounts--seeing my artwork on television, on websites, billboards, in stores, in books and textbooks, in magazines, on music covers, or hanging in lobbies and offices, or meeting celebrities was exciting! Most of the time all the drawing, sketching, painting, illustrating didn't seem like work at all.
Having been trained as both a fine artist and commercial artist, as well as in sculpture and portraiture, I have decided to devote most of my time to the fine arts, gradually making it full time.
I love to work with color--especially dramatic colors--like the deep, gorgeous gemstone colors--turquoises, purples, deep greens and blues. My painting style ranges from near realistic to impressionist to impressionist with graphic elements. My favorite mediums are acrylics or oils. All paintings are completed on canvas stretched on wood frames. Most of my work is done in studio, often using my own photographs as reference, of places where I've lived or taken during my travels. I sometimes use models.
Having a great appreciation for animals and nature, a lot of my paintings will feature these. I also have a great appreciation for America's space travel and received several commissions to do this type art. You will find some paintings of mine dealing with space travel in my gallery and there will be more to come. All things of Florida and the beach are also the things I like to paint. Having lived near the Great Smoky Mountains and Cherokee, I became an admirer of the Cherokee culture and the Cherokee people. There are two paintings of the Cherokee in my gallery with more to come.
So I hope you will enjoy looking through my gallery. Through my paintings I strive to convey beauty, elegance, warmth of spirit, sometimes drama and excitement, and always---quality in art. I hope the paintings will leave you with positive feelings. Take your time to browse and come back often. You are most welcome on this site.
I now reside in a home with an art studio in Central Florida, owned by several cats who allow us to live there too.
